These upcoming events will showcase Chet O'Keefe performing
originals from his CD "Gamebird" which includes "Ring
the Bell" the 2010 Song of the Year, IBMA, International Bluegrass
Music Assoc. Chet opened for Grammy-award winner Nanci Griffith on her
tour of Ireland last year. Now he is calling Kettle Falls "Home",
and will share his americana/roots/blues style at these shows. From
accoustic arrangements to electric dance beats, Chet's golden-honey
voice is warm and soothing with intriquet, insightful lyrics. For more

The Friends of the Little Pend Oreille National Wildlife Refuge
winter program - Polar Bears - Interested in Polar Bears? The
Polar Bear has been described as “the canary in the coal mine
of global warming” and they were the first species in the U.S.
to be listed as a threatened species because of the projected loss of
habitat due to global warming. Do you wonder why this is happening?
Do you have questions about global warming? Are you just curious about
Polar Bears? If so, please join us to see some great pictures and learn
some things about the great white bears of the north that have captured
the human imagination throughout the ages. Come join the Fiends of the
Little Pend Oreille National Wildlife Refuge Friday, March 2, at 7 pm,
at the Colville Community College auditorium, as we are pleased to welcome
Dr. Steven C. Amstrup for an informative presentation and discussion
about these titans of the north. Dr. Amstrup is the chief scientist
for Polar Bears International. He has studied and researched all aspects
of Polar Bear Ecology in the Beaufort Sea for over 30 years. Doors open
at 6:30 for refreshments and a chance to meet with friends.

North Country Artisans' Market will hold an off-season market
on Wednesdays from 11am until 5pm at 282 W. Astor St. (The old North
Country Co-Op ~ Across from the Ag Center). This effort to provide local
vendors with an indoor space to sell their goods will include local
farmers, artisans, and entrepreneurs offering a variety of produce,
food products, art, hand-crafted goods, healing arts, live music, merchandise,
information, prepared foods, hot and cold drinks, and more. Vendors
are welcome to inquire about space availability, fees, and to request

Colville Horizons will hold a planning meeting on Tuesday,
February 14, at 4 p.m. at the office of Dana McDowell at WorkSource,
956 South Main Street, Colville. The group invites potential participants
to enjoy some Valentine's cookies and discuss some possible dates and
topics for its annual Economic Resource Conference. This year it is
looking at including whole foods marketing, as well as general business

Colville Branch AAUW (American Association of University Women) will
host a free interactive forum on women's health, "Staying
Balanced in Troubled Times," on Thursday, February 16,
7 pm to 8:30 pm, at the Rendezvous Theater, at the Institute for Extended
Learning, 985 S. Elm Street, Colville. Local female health practitioners
will discuss how external factors such as the recession, downsizing,
job layoffs, insufficient income and general uncertainty affect women
and children, and will offer tips for coping. For additional information

“A Valentine Celebration” will be the theme of the
February show at Eureka Arts Gold Mountain Gallery. Gift items
made by local artists and crafts persons include handmade wooden boxes,
prints and paintings, turquoise jewelry, scarecrows, stuffed animals,
cards, woven objects, silk scarves, ceramics and photogrpahs. A reception
for the show will be from 2 to 7 pm, Friday, Feb. 10. Refreshments will
be served. Gold Mountains Gallery is an association of local artists
who have joined together to have a place to show and sell their work.

The February 2012 meetings for the Northeast Washington Genealogical
Society (NeWGS) will take place on Wednesday, February 8. The
Computer Interest Group will meet in the basement of the Colville Public
Library from 10:30 a.m. to noon. NeWGS member Sue Richart will be presenting
a look at overlaying historical maps with current digital maps using
Google Earth technology. This class is co-sponsored by the Libraries
of Stevens County. The afternoon meeting takes place at 1:30 p.m. in
the basement meeting room at the Family History Center located in the
LDS Church at 260 E. Juniper in Colville. Member Nancy Wright will be
presenting “The Great Migration Series – Early Immigrants
to New England.” The Colville Library has ten volumes of books
written by Robert Charles Anderson regarding the early migration of
immigrants to New England from 1620 to 1635. All are welcome to attend
this educational and interesting presentation. Both meetings are free
and we invite anyone with an interest in tracing their family history.

La Leche League of Colville - Breastfeeding or considering
it? Then you'll want the information and encouragement that La Leche
League provides. Leaders are experienced breastfeeding mothers, accredited
by La Leche League International. Whether you're pregnant or already
nursing, LLL has something for you--tips and techniques shared by mothers
who have enjoyed a successful breastfeeding relationship. Services available
include monthly informational meetings, lending library, phone and e-mail
help for breastfeeding problems and questions, along with a facebook
group page found under "La Leche League of Colville." All
mothers and their babies are welcome. The meetings will start on Feb.
3 and will be the first friday of every month at the Mt. Carmel Health

Local food banks need your help! There are a number of ways
to contribute, from donations of nonperishable food items and cash,
to organizing food drives in your church or organization or at work,
to volunteering your time at the food bank, to including the food bank
in your will. Each and every donation to your local food bank makes
a difference for area residents.

Child Advocates Needed - Unique Volunteer Opportunity-
Join Stevens County Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) investigating
child abuse and speaking up for a child’s best interest in court.
All training is provided. CASA is looking for common sense experts to
advocate for children in Stevens County. This is your opportunity to
impact the future of abused and neglected children in your community.

Wellness
The Colville Chapter of The Compassionate Friends will meet
on Tuesday, February 21, 7:00 p.m. in Providence Mt. Carmel Education
Center, 1169 E. Columbia, in Colville (located just across the street
from the Hospital main entrance. The Compassionate Friends is a national
mutual assistance self-help organization offering support, understanding,
and hope to families who have experienced the death of a child. It aids
them in positive resolution of the grief experience and fosters their
physical and emotional health. Membership is open to any parents, grandparents,
siblings, or extended family who have experienced a child's death, regardless
of the circumstances or the child's age. The program will be facilitated
by Rose Burns.

Hospice of Spokane is Offering Support for Anyone Grieving the Loss
of a Loved One. Grief support includes individual counseling
as well as Grief Support Groups, both are available at no cost. Many
people feel the need for additional support outside the realm of their
families and friends when they are coping with grief. Attending a support
group is an opportunity to process and share feelings with others experiencing
similar difficulties and can be invaluable in the healing process. Groups
and individual counseling are faciliated by a Hospice of Spokane bereavement

Cancer Education and Support Group - A unique group intended
for cancer patients, families, friends, and support staff is available
in the Providence Health Education Center (1169 E. Columbia Ave, Colville)
across the street from the front entrance to Providence Mount Carmel
Hospital. This group will connect with experts at Providence Cancer
Center in Spokane via telehealth video conferencing. Please call if

HIV/AIDS Class for Non-licensed Personnel will be offered at
Mount Carmel Hospital Health Education Center, 1169 E. Columbia, in
partnership with NE Tri-County Health Dept. Free of charge, participants

for day care operators, foster home caregivers, and many other occupations

to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, the homeless and victims

Valley, Newport and Cusick. Children in their last year before Kindergarten
are enrolled first, as well as children with disabilities and children
from low-income families. There is no cost, and transportation assistance

for an Early Childhood staff. Head Start and ECEAP are programs of Rural
Resources.
Today's Girl Scouts is more than just cookies and camp! The
Girl Scout program also includes adventurous, fun activities like rock
climbing, canoeing, backpacking and exploring careers in math, science
and technology that appeal to today's girls. Girl Scouts offers activities
for girls ranging from ages 4-17 and adults from ages 18-100. For information,
